Intel ready to lower processor prices in the second half?

Until now largely leader in x86 processors, Intel did not have to play the price drop card to sell its production and the adjustments were fairly moderate.

But with the competitor breakthrough AMD since 2018 and a erosion of its market share in several segments combining different causes (delay of 10 nm, shortage of processors in 14 nm, attractive offer at AMD), the option of lowering prices could become tempting.

Intel Ice Lake

Intel has started to make an effort in this direction since mid-2019 with One-off price reductions in response to the arrival of new AMD processors or lower launch rates than the previous generation in the case of processors Lake-X waterfall so as to make them more attractive against the Ryzen Threadripper.

according to Digitimes, Intel should amplify this strategy of lowering its processor prices during the second half of the year in an attempt to limit the erosion of its market shares, while the commissioning of the first processors engraved in 10 nm only begins and will take more time before winning.

The choice to maintain under the same name “Intel Core 10th generation” processors engraved in 14 nm (Comet Lake) and in 10 nm (Ice Lake) does not necessarily facilitate things within Intel’s offer, even targeting two separate segments.
