Intel processors discovered a dangerous vulnerability – Naked Science

Intel has unveiled a list of processors that discovered an exploit that opens cache access.

CacheOut – this is the name of the next vulnerability found in Intel processors. It is associated with speculative execution of commands and allows you to selectively extract data from the cache of the first level.

Intel has already recognized the vulnerability. On a ten-point CVSS vulnerability rating scale, CacheOut received 6.5 points. Also company published a list of processors affected by this vulnerability and provided a microcode update to address architecture flaws. Intel operating system developers have been advised on developing updates to protect against CacheOut.

An important feature of the vulnerability was that a malicious program that was written to extract information using CacheOut does not have to wait for a data leak. Hacker software can select the necessary information from the cache independently.

Another important exploit feature is the ability to overcome almost all hardware security boundaries. This makes the core, jointly located virtual machines and SGX enclaves, areas in the virtual address space, protected from reading and writing from outside this area by other processes, vulnerable to data theft.
