Intel Pentium and Celeron are dying

Intel has now confirmed that the Celeron and Pentium laptop names will be retired after being a mainstay of the manufacturer’s product range for several decades.

Intel will soon eliminate two iconic product lines and merge them under a new name. The Pentium and Celeron product series, which have been part of Intel’s core framework for several decades, will disappear from notebook computers early next year.

The two entry-level series will be merged to form what has been creatively called “Intel Processor”. This then becomes a new product series consisting of entry-level models, for example in notebook computers. According to Intel, this should simplify their product portfolio. It should also allow the company to focus more on their larger product series like Core and Evo.

At present, it is uncertain whether the product lines will continue to exist for desktop computers. Intel reportedly has no plans to roll out any new devices in its desktop product lines in the near future. However, it has not been confirmed what will happen to product names in general in the future. What is clear, however, is that we won’t see laptops decorated with stickers with the names Celeron or Pentium starting in early 2023.
