With the arrival of Intel’s Meteor Lake series, a long-standing practice ended, and the names of the processors changed significantly. These central units are only available in mobile versions, since the desktop versions have been discontinued in the meantime, so on the desktop front, we can only find the new features on table configurations and all-in-one devices. On the front of the desk, for now, is the Bird Lake is inside Raptor lake update members of generations are standing in the mud, but they don’t have to last long, the new models will come soon.
The new nomenclature will of course also be used in the category of desktop processors, where the Arrow Lake-S models that will arrive later this year will be the first to use it. Based on previous information, these processors will strengthen the Core Ultra 200 series, but no information has been released yet about how the individual model specifications will improve. One of the famous readers, who goes by the name Raichu, and who usually provides accurate information about Intel’s upcoming products and plans, revealed just the other day what possible models in the Arrow Lake-S desktop range. As this is currently classified as rumor level information, it should be treated with plenty of skepticism.
If everything goes according to the leak, the new processors will break the tradition, within a framework that could produce a specific model with a multiplier lock and without a multiplier lock, with the same number, but different symptoms. Multi-lock models were usually numbered only, and versions without an active iGPU had an “F” in their “name” and non-multi-lock versions were given a “K” or “KF” designation- gray, depending on whether they included an active iGPU or not. In the case of the next generation, the models with multiplier lock and without multiplier lock can be better separated from each other, because both can give completely different numbers.
As for the non-multiple lock versions, we can expect the high-end Core Ultra 9 285K, the mid-range Core Ultra 7 265K, and the Core Ultra 5 245K to be more cost-effective, but the models that are not produced with the same calculation without the “K” symbol, at least it seems at the moment. The multiplier lock models are expected to be numbered differently, i.e. they will be Core Ultra 9,275, Core Ultra 7,255 and Core Ultra 5,240 models. According to previous practice, low-consumption “T” models, as well as “F” versions without an active iGPU, will probably be made from the latter, although details about them have not yet been released.
All new processors will require a new motherboard, as the Arrow Lake-S models already have the LGA-1851 package, which is physically the same size as the LGA-1700 version, but with more pins. In addition to the new processor socket, new chipsets are also being released to power the 800 series. The memory support will now be direct and fully dual-channel DDR5, if we can believe the rumors so far, ie DDR4 memory modules can no longer be carried.
Based on the news so far, the new processors can be launched this year, but the exact time will be revealed only later.
