Intel Discontinues Development of NUC Series as PC Market Declines

Intel decided to put an end to the development of its NUC series of products (Next Unit of Compute) in order to refocus on other segments.

The company has since officially issued a statement, indicating a strategic readjustment:

« We have decided to discontinue direct investment in the Next Unit of Compute (NUC) business and refocus our strategy to enable our ecosystem partners to continue NUC innovation and growth. This decision will not impact the rest of Intel’s Client Computing Group (CCG) or Network and Edge Computing (NEX) businesses. Additionally, we are working with our partners and customers to ensure a smooth transition and the fulfillment of all of our current commitments. »

Intel did not detail the reasons for this choice, but the decline of the computer market is undoubtedly one of them. The firm, however, assures that it will maintain the necessary support for existing NUC products and that its partners will honor all outstanding orders.

As a reminder, the NUC PC division of Intel has launched a varied range of products, the most remarkable being undoubtedly sa mini pc series. These systems offered high-quality specifications and support at an affordable cost, which sparked market interest.

With the decline in demand, the fragmentation of the mini PC market could be a major reason for this decision. In recent years, companies such as ASRock and ASUS have entered the mini PC market with competitive specs and pricing. Products like the ASUS PN64-E1 gained traction in the market, which may have distracted attention from Intel’s NUC lineup.

The difficult state of the PC market was a big influence on this decision, as it was suggested that the company could experience a significant 53% drop in annual revenue.

Intel’s NUC line had set an industry standard, especially for mini-PC products, and the cancellation decision will disappoint many enthusiasts.
