Intel has demonstrated a chip equipped with its own memory. The processor belongs to the Meteor Lake generation.
What is known
Apple announced the M1 chip a few years ago, which was replaced by the M2. Both processors have their own LDDR RAM. Intel decided to follow the same path, the CPU of which is no longer in Apple laptops.
The blue giant showed off a Meteor Lake generation processor that uses Foveros packaging. The main feature of the chip is the presence of Samsung LPDDR5X-7500 RAM. The volume is 16 GB.
The CPU configuration is not specified. However, 16 GB of RAM can potentially provide a peak throughput of 120 GB / s, which is much higher than DDR5-5200 and LPDDR5-6400.
The key benefits of RAM integration are increased performance and reduced size, which will allow laptops to be equipped with larger batteries. Not without drawbacks, too. Memory corruption disables the entire platform beyond repair. The upgrade option also disappears and a more sophisticated cooling system is required.
Whether Intel will bring such processors to the market is still unknown.
