Intel APO Technology: Everything You Need to Know about Intel Application Optimization

“Listen carefully, you have been betrayed because you had expectations in the first place.”

This is a famous line from the trainer in the game ‘Closers.’

If you think about the sentence itself, leaving out the context, you will see that pessimistic thoughts are revealed. What is pessimism in the first place? It is an idea that describes the world and life in a dark way. If you don’t expect it in the first place, you won’t be betrayed.

The same goes for the expected maintenance effect. If a teacher has low expectations for a student through records or data collected from teachers in previous grades, even if the student’s performance improves, the student’s performance will ultimately still be at the level of the teacher’s expectations. This is what happens when you rely on your first judgment and don’t change your expectations.

However, it is not a bad thing to have expectations or to have low expectations. Because I expected it to be this big from the start. But what if the results are good enough to break those low expectations? I didn’t even think about it in the first place, but when I saw an amazing progress. For example, what if you buy a gaming CPU and its performance improves significantly by installing a program provided by the manufacturer?

# What is APO technology?

APO is a technology introduced by Intel. Intel. It is a leading company in the semiconductor industry and a giant in the x86 market. This is what Intel APO means. ‘Intel Application Optimization’ literally means Intel application optimization. If you look at Intel’s website, it says this: ‘Intel Application Optimization determines and manages application resources in real time’

“Oh yeah… it’s about making real-time decisions about app resources!”

But more sentences will come later.

‘This policy, combined with application threading for select software titles, can optimize thread scheduling and improve performance for supported applications’

In summary, it is a great program that improves applications through app optimization.

So what is the program specifically? The answer is in the last remaining sentence.

“The Intel Application Optimizer user interface is an optional part of the optimization technology that allows users to see which games are optimized and turn off unwanted optimizations. Users can disable entire applications or select specific applications in the Enable/Disable Individual Application tab The list of games that can be disabled varies per user depending on which games Intel® detects and ‘ make the best use.

# Why do you need an APO?

The answer has come out. APO is it! As soon as possible! Exactly! It was a program that improved game performance! This is more than enough reason to live. Even though I didn’t do anything special, the game performance improved! This must be a surprise.

The main point is that such APO is based on Intel DTT (Dynamic Tuning Technology). DTT provides better CPU and GPU performance within system power and thermal constraints. In other words, it improves performance by making the most of the Intel CPU, which has a hybrid structure with P-core and E-core. Once you are interested, you can download the application from the Microsoft Store.

So which CPU can use this feature? Of course, it must be a processor that supports DTT. First, it covers the 12th to 14th generation. To be sure, these are desktop and mobile processors i5, i7, and i9 (12th generation Intel Core processors or higher), but they are usable but not confirmed. Unverified CPUs have limited support and can only be used in advanced mode.

After narrowing it down one more time, the ‘proven processors’ that actually support it are as follows.

Intel Core i9 14900KS processor

Intel Core i9 14900K processor

Intel Core i9 14900KF processor

Intel Core i9 14900HX processor

Intel Core i7 14700K processor

Intel Core i7 14700KF processor

Intel Core i7 14700HX processor

Actually, there is some difference here as well.

The best game list for Core desktop processors and Core mobile processors is different.

** The list of updated games for Core i7-14700HX and Core i9-14900HX mobile processors is as follows.

F1 22

Guardians of the Galaxy

Rainbow 6 Chorus

Strange Brigade (VLK)

metro exodus

War Z

Dirt 5 (Dirt 5)

World of Warcraft

** The list of updated games for Core desktop processors: Core i7-14700KF, Core i7-14700K, Core i9-14900KF, Core i9-14900K, and Core i9-14900KS is as follows.

Final Fantasy XIV

Red dead redemption 2 new

World of tanks

Dreams Three Kingdoms 2 (China)

F1 22

Guardians of the Galaxy

Rainbow 6 Chorus

Bad Sam 4 (VLK)

Strange Brigade (VLK)

Corps Watchdog

metro exodus

War Z

so 5

World of Warcraft

In addition, according to Intel data, game performance improves significantly when using APO. It improved by 13% in Rainbow Six: Siege and 16% in Metro Exodus. It’s not bad to get this level of performance improvement without doing anything.

# How much has APO evolved?

In fact, when it was released, APO was a very limited technology. It was only supported on Core i7-14700K and Core i9-14900K, and there were only two games: Metro Exodus and Rainbow Six: Siege. If you look at it up to this point, it’s true that it’s a real disappointment.

However, as time passed, the scope of support increased. Desktop CPUs include KF and KS models, and mobile CPUs Core i7-14700HX and Core i9-14900HX have been added. Also, at this point, the number of supported games has increased significantly. As of April 30, 2024, there are a total of 14. It’s still disappointing, but it’s getting better.

# What about predicting the future of APO?

So is APO a good feature? It is a good feature. You can improve game performance on your current system without investing a lot of money, so it can’t be a bad feature. It feels like it’s going a little slow, but instead of increasing the number of supported games like roasting beans in a flash, an update that is guaranteed to improve performance could be clear even over time better. In that regard, APO is developing regularly and well.

After all, gaming cannot be separated from Intel. APO is also a careful consideration prepared by Intel for gamers. If you mostly enjoy AAA games, choosing an Intel CPU is a good choice, depending on the continuously updated APO function.
