Intel Announces NUC 13 Extreme Mini PC with Intel Raptor Lake Processor – Computers – News

There I explain why you see different results in reviews, namely why the motherboards they use invariably ignore Intel specs (MSI. Asus, Gigabyte, etc. have been doing this for years). Tweakers also uses such a motherboard, so it makes sense to see such results. After all, according to Intel specs, a PL2 (power limit) of 253W should be set, and Tweakers admit that their motherboard doesn’t have that limit, because they indicate that you should set it manually. The motherboard manufacturer should do this for you :)

However, they don’t, because they prefer to beat the competition in terms of performance. After all, you would have a slightly lower score as an MSI than, for example, Asus, but you consume much less and therefore you will be more efficient, which of course is absolutely not possible.

Grab one of those motherboards and read the standard power limits. You will see that these are “never” (there will certainly be an exception that confirms the rule) at 253W for Raptor Lake, but at 2048W or 4096W. And yes, so in the reviews you will see really high consumption, because that CPU it is therefore limited only by the available cooling and will therefore consume as much until it reaches 100c. And then the reviewers are also “surprised” that such a CPU temperature drops. Yes, it is logical if you make the consumption unlimited, and let the temperature be the only limit, who would have expected it …..

And this is precisely the problem, the “standard” of motherboard manufacturers does not match Intel specifications. And so in Intel ‘Stock’, or for example an HP OEM machine using Intel stock settings, something other than ‘MSI Stock’ or ‘Asus Stock’.
