Motherboards for Alder Lake-S are currently only available with the Z690 chipset and unfortunately are not cheap at all. For example, the ASUS PRIME Z590-P for older Intely costs CZK 3,600, while the follow-up PRIME Z690-P for DDR4 is CZK 2,100 more expensive at the same retailer. Above all, the point is that we simply do not buy for about CZK 5,500 and the only consolation is that even the cheapest boards will offer powerful power supply, but not yet offer them at such prices.
When it comes to DDR5 memory, we can count on at least a 50% surcharge if we compare the prices of the DDR4-3200 and DDR5-4800 modules. This more or less applies to both 16GB and 32GB sets, with DDR5-5200 being just a little (a hundred or two) more expensive.
We will not pay attention to the prices of coolers, so we are left with the processors themselves. Of course, they have not yet settled in the offer, so we can look at the introductory prices, which are more or less the same everywhere (sometimes slightly lower):
- Intel Core i5-12600K: 9.000 Kč
- Intel Core i5-12600KF: 8.000 Kč
- Intel Core i7-12700K: 13.000 Kč
- Intel Core i7-12700KF: 12.000 Kč
- Intel Core i9-12900K: 19.000 Kč
- Intel Core i9-12900KF: 18.000 Kč
Currently, it is possible to get, for example, Core i5-12600K or Core i9-12900K in stock, just look, but it looks like KF models have not yet reached our market, or only in minimal quantities. But before the end of the month, (further) deliveries should arrive.
Unfortunately, buying Alder Lake-S today is not exactly advantageous, despite the significant increase in performance. If we take the model situation with the Core i5-12600K and a reasonable board for DDR4, we will find that compared to the previous generation (11600K) we will pay around 4.5 to 5 thousand crowns and if we need a new heatsink or opt for DDR5, it will be it’s even more so.
