Integration of vulnerable young people: The FAD will support initiatives in 5 regions of Cameroon

The project aims to contribute to the improvement of living conditions in the Lake Chad basin.

Cameroon, through the Project to support the socio-economic reintegration of vulnerable groups in the Lake Chad basin (Parsebalt), wants to provide professional integration kits to youth groups and cooperatives in the departments of Diamaré, Logone- et-Chari, Mayo Sava and Mayo Tsanaga and in the Far North region.

Parsebalt is a pilot investment project which aims to help limit the negative effects of climate change with the advance of the desert and the shrinking of the surface area of Lake Chad. The project aims to contribute to the improvement of living conditions in the Lake Chad basin, through the social and economic reintegration of populations most affected by insecurity and climatic hazards in the region.

These are computer equipment; textile industries (clothing, leather goods, tapestry, screen printing, marquetry, painting, aesthetics). Professional technical kit equipment (auto mechanics, masonry, wood carpentry, metal carpentry, air conditioning, electricity and cold). Equipment in animal and plant production and processing kits (breeding, agriculture and catering).

The Lake Chad Basin Commission (Cblt) has just launched an open international call for tenders for the acquisition of this equipment. The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) was created by the Convention of Fort-Lamy (Ndjamena) on May 22, 1964 by the four countries bordering Lake Chad: Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Chad.

It is a permanent consultation structure set up in Africa in order to coordinate the actions of different States which may affect the waters of the Chad basin and peacefully resolve the problems and disputes affecting this area.

Specifically, the objective of Parsebalt is to fight against unemployment and idleness of young people, by improving the training offer and its adequacy with local economic needs. Revitalize economic activities in the region, by promoting and supporting the structuring of economic groups of women and young people.

It is also a question of organizing civic training for the populations, to strengthen their patriotic spirit and their civic sense. Strengthen populations’ capacities for resilience and adaptation to climate change, through increasing their income and raising awareness about security, the environment and social ills.
