“Having received the approval of the National Bank of Slovakia for the acquisition of VIAMO, we are currently working very intensively on integrating BLIK with our systems. We expect that the first test transactions will take place in the last quarter of this year” — PSP vice-president Monika Król during the teleconference.
“We’ll begin [działalność na Słowacji] in e-commerce with the traditional six-digit code functionality,” she added.
The VIAMO purchase agreement was signed in August last year. The approval of the Slovak central bank was a condition for finalizing the transaction.
VIAMO has been operating on the Slovak market for ten years. It has the status of a payment institution and provides services in the field of P2P payments and payments to enterprises. The company is also the provider of the payment gateway – VIAMO PayGate. The company works closely with two banks – VÚB and Tatra banka. However, its services can be used by customers of all banks in Slovakia using the VIAMO Plus mobile application.
Apart from Poland and Slovakia, BLIK plans to develop its operations also in Romania in the near future. At the end of last year, the BLIK Romania company was established, responsible for popularizing the BLIK mobile payment system in this country. As the vice-president informed, PSP is currently waiting for approval from the National Bank of Romania.
Król also announced work on further development of deferred payments on the domestic market (BNPL – Buy Now Pay Later).
“What is important for us in Poland is the development and improvement of those services that are already operating on the market and do not yet have full coverage. We are talking about BNPL, which is in the phase of intensive testing with Bank Millennium and we will soon inform about the implementation of this The product on which we also want to focus is the development of recurring payments, which are currently available in two banks, and we want this service to have a very wide reach,” she also said.
She added that PSP will also develop BLIK payments in the public sector. She reminded that the pilot of such services has already started in Bydgoszcz and Toruń, where it is possible to pay real estate tax installments in this way.
BLIK is a common standard for mobile payments. Polski Standard Płatności (PSP) is responsible for the development of the system. Its shareholders are: Alior Bank, Bank Millennium, Santander Bank Polska, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO Bank Polski and Mastercard.
