Integration: ECCAS countries called for better harmonization of efforts

Libreville, Sunday July 2, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – The XXIII ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States was held on 1^is July 2023 in Libreville under the chairmanship of the Gabonese Head of State, Ali Bongo Ondimba, host of the event. “Housed today in Libreville, Gabon, under the leadership of HE Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Gabonese Republic and Current President of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS ), the 23rd Ordinary Session of the said Institution examined the files submitted to its agenda. It was for the Heads of State and delegation to take stock of the functioning of the Community, to meet the challenges and to consolidate the dynamics of the integration of the Sub-region.

These meetings saw the participation of the leaders of the Member States of the said Community, experts and representatives of continental and international institutions, like the United Nations and the African Union.

This High-Level Meeting took place in several stages, particularly the opening ceremony of the Works, the High-Level Session with the Heads of State and delegation conducted behind closed doors with the examination and adoption of the Summit Agenda.

The participants in this Conference followed the presentation of the Report of the Council of Ministers; the Activity Report of the President of the Commission; the Report on the political and security situation; of the Report on the High Level Political Dialogue on Financing Regional Integration.

At the end of the presentations of the Reports and their adoption by the Heads of State and delegation behind closed doors, the Protocols and Decisions examined by the experts and the Ministers were also adopted.

The Motion of Thanks for the Works was read by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo before the reading by the President of the ECCAS Commission of the Final Communique sanctioning the Works.

In his closing address, while thanking his hosts for their participation in this High Level Meeting which honors Gabon, the President of the Republic challenged his Peers on the need for all Member States to harmonize their efforts in with a view to achieving better integration of the ECCAS community space.

He also placed particular emphasis on the necessary institutional reform of the Community. He congratulated the audience on the significant advances in terms of financing, while asking his peers to continue to reflect on this subject.

He expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in maritime security, as well as the promotion of the gender approach. He regretted the persistence of security challenges in the ECCAS community space which hinders the development of our sub-region, particularly on the economic level”.
