Intars Rešetins has staged a radio theater performance “Strangers or Milenki ti moj” / Article / LSM.lv

From April 20 to 24, Latvijas Radio 1 offers listeners the premiere of the Radio Theater – a production of the collection of stories “Strangers or Milenki ti moj” by the award-winning Latvian writer Jan Egle, directed by Intars Rešetins. It will sound every evening at 22.05 and will also be available on the website Latvijasradio.lv. The play is the debut of director Intars Resetin at the Radio Theater.

The authors of the dramatization of the production are Dzintars Tilaks and Intars Rešetins, in the roles – Indra Briķe, Vita Vārpiņa, Artis Robežnieks, Veronika Plotņikova, Intars Rešetins and Grēta Rešetina. Sound director Kristine Zolotorenko.

“Strangers or Milenki ti moj” consists of eight emotionally intense stories named after the main characters – Margarita, Harald, Alevtina, Sandris, Theophilus, Adrian, Veronica and Kerry. Their sequence in the performance is finely twisted and intriguing. Although at first it may seem that these are the life stories of unrelated people, the listener can quickly realize that they are connected, but it is not yet clear how and through what.

“A person needs intimacy the most, the other person – mother, child, loved one, friend. Real, lively and sensitive ties that hold each other closely and give them the strength to support each other, ”

said writer Jana Egle.

“These stories are about broken ties, about strangers who are really close, and their fates. Someone needs to have the courage to take the first step over time, wrongdoing and guilt, ”the writer explained.

The director of the production Intars Rešetins said: “Writer Jana Egle intertwines a series of emotional stories into one whole in a wonderful and understandable language.

It’s no secret that one of my favorites in world drama is Florian Zeller, and I have to admit that Jan Egle wrote this work in a similar formula, rag or puzzle,

putting together eight stories in one cycle, in which we get both reality and “flashback” or retrospective possibility. They lead us to human destinies, feelings of nature, painful and emotional, and also happy, happy memories. For the actors, this is a living material, a wonderful opportunity to “swim”! Together with sound director Kristīne Zolotorenko, we have created, I hope, a pleasant radio series for listeners, which will be a small event for all of us living in our beloved Latvia, because these fate stories affect us. The author of the dramatization Dzintars Tilaks admitted that the Radio Theater is lucky both with the opportunity to stage a content and emotionally saturated work of Latvian literature and the author’s support, as well as with the creative team – great actors who can reliably make a foreign problem, pain and experience their own. “The production process has also been quite interesting,” said Tilaks, “Intars Reshetin is so on fire! Even after the recording of the production is over, he continues to add to it, saying: “I feel that there must be something very good!”.

The collection of stories “Strangers or Milenki ti moj” has been awarded the Liepāja Culture Prize, has been nominated for the Latvian Literature of the Year Prize and the Public Media Prize “Kilograms of Culture”. Jana Egle is a multiple laureate of Prose readings, having made her prose debut with the collection of stories “Gaisma”, which has received the Latvian Literature of the Year Award. “Strangers or Milenki ti moj” is the writer’s second collection of stories.

Intars Rešetins makes his debut on Latvian Radio as an audio theater director with the production “Strangers or Milenki ti moj”. So far, he has gained experience in several Radio Theater productions as an actor.
