If the latest financial inclusion survey has made anything clear, it is that the insurance sector not only has a lot of work to do so that Mexicans become aware of this financial product, which helps families to face and come out of an accident or problem better of health that affects them and that can become a catastrophe for their personal finances.
Today the entire industry is gathered at the 31st AMIS Insurers Convention, where the main topic will be the impact of the pandemic and its repercussions on the industry, but they have also left ample space for digital transformation and, above all, to financial education.
This is because, as I was telling you, in the last year the contracting of insurance fell in general, although in the first year of the pandemic in the specific category of insurance for major medical expenses there was growth. In total, in 2021, 17.6 million people between the ages of 18 and 70 had at least one insurance, a figure that corresponds to 21.0 percent of said population, a drop of 4.4 percentage points compared to 2018; the industry reflects a fall also as a result of the slowdown in the economy and the increase in unemployment.
Where a clear and wide gap can be seen is between men and women; there are fewer insured women, with 16.4 percent of the population aged 18 to 70, and 26.1 percent in the case of men, who declared having some insurance, which implies a gap of 9.7 percentage points.
But an interesting issue is to ensure that the country can advance more like in the Northwest, where 28.7 percent of the population has some type of insurance, not even the Northeast has those numbers, we are not even talking about the South, the difference is more of 10 percentage points, so the job is not only to sell insurance, but to combine good service, attention and a timely response to its clients.
In the convention that will have a hybrid format, the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS) will carry out the change of presidency of the organization, since the president of the insurer El Águila, Juan Patricio Riveroll Sánchez, will assume the position in substitution of Sofía Belmar, whom we must recognize that during the beginning of the pandemic she grouped the insurance sector so that all those with major medical expenses insurance were treated by private hospitals; Without a doubt, he had two years of many challenges that he managed to deal with very well. Now it will be Riveroll’s turn to encourage, on the one hand, the contracting of insurance and, on the other, perhaps achieve that 25 percent of those over 18 years of age who say that they do not they are interested in insurance, to be able to attract them.
