Insurers are prepared to respond after the passing of ‘John’: AMIS

Mexico City. Insurance companies are prepared to respond to any contingency caused by the passage of the hurricane John in Guerrero, Michoacán and Colima, indicated the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS).

The organization indicated that after the meteorological phenomenon regained strength to become a hurricane again, the sector is ready to act.

“Insurance companies are prepared to respond to any contingency in the different cities that is required, simultaneously and provide care to the insured who require it, cooperating and following the instructions of the federal and state Civil Protection authorities,” he said. the AMIS.

He recalled that, according to the United Nations (UN), Mexico is among the top 10 countries with the highest catastrophic risk from disasters derived from hurricanes due to its geographical location, as observed in October 2023 with Otis.

In addition, 45 percent of the territory is exposed to floods, according to the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred).

He noted that Guerrero, Michoacán and Colima represented just under 10 percent of the accident rate due to coverage of hydrometeorological risks.

“In these entities, the types of property that have had the greatest protection in recent years by Hydrometeorological Risk insurance, which is the coverage that is activated in the event of a hurricane, are hotels, department stores, shopping centers (and businesses in general ), offices and homes,” said Norma Alicia Rosas, general director of AMIS.

The AMIS suggested that policyholders follow the instructions of the authorities in the presence of the hurricane; review your policies to confirm that they have protection from hydrometeorological risks; avoids additional risks, such as gas and electricity installations; report accidents; document damages, among others.

He mentioned that he is in constant communication with insurance institutions to monitor the situation and follow sector protocols, which complement the processes of each company to support the streamlining of claims attention procedures.
