Zapping Auto Moto Renault Rafale: first contact with the large SUV cut from the Losange
From November 1, the Mountain Law will require motorists to equip themselves with snow tires or have devices suitable for driving on snow (socks or snow chains). This in just over 4,000 municipalities in France, until March 31.
The fact remains that, for the third consecutive year in three years of existence, disrespect of the Mountain law will not result in any sanction. A grotesque situation, denounced by the 40 Million Motorists association.
The real sanction of the Mountain law, that of insurance?
Because, if the police will not impose fines, insurance companies are likely to fine motorists. Indeed, the latter are required to apply the law.
However, if a driver does not respect it, the insurance can clear itself. A real problem, according to Pierre Chasseray, general delegate of the 40 million motorists association, who details:
“If an accident takes place in an area covered by the Mountain law, but the motorist does not have any specific device, he will certainly not have any fine, but the insurance company will undoubtedly refuse to cover the damage linked to the “accident! A real problem arises.”
A measure for road safety
This is all the more damaging because at 40MA, we consider the Mountain law to be a good initiative. The latter would improve road safety. Philip Nozière, president of the association “40 million motorists, explains:
“This measure helps improve road safety and traffic conditions in winter, particularly when driving on snowy or icy roads.”

To sum up
The Mountain law will be applied from November 1, without sanction for the third consecutive year. However, this will not be without effect, particularly at the level of insurance, which must comply with the law.
