The training is offered in the fields of “financial advice” and “insurance”.

Most school graduates want a varied job with a high degree of personal responsibility and a lot of contact with people. The apprenticeship as an insurance and finance clerk fulfills these wishes, because people today have a high need for information and advice, especially with regard to the protection against risks in life and provision for the future. Here, the merchant for insurance and finance is the ideal contact.

They typically work at insurance companies and in the financial services industry. They often also work as independent intermediaries, brokers or consultants. You can also work in commercial companies in industry and commerce as well as other service companies.

Insurance and finance clerks advise and look after their customers. To do this, they have to analyze the customer’s individual needs for insurance protection and financial situation in order to then be able to submit specific offers. They also enter into contracts, make contract changes, and endeavor to maintain and maintain contracts. The merchants have to examine cases of benefits very carefully and then inform their customers about the scope of the services. In order to be able to carry out all these activities, insurance and finance clerks are expected to think and work in a team, process and project-oriented manner.

The profession is divided into two specializations. In the specialty
insurances mainly claims and benefits are processed. The focal points include customer acquisition and portfolio expansion, marketing, control and sales promotion in the sales unit, risk management, the sale of company pension scheme products, insurance products for commercial customers, the optimization of customer relationships and insurance portfolios and claims service and benefit management. These focal points are defined in the training regulations as so-called optional qualification units, two of which must be learned during the training. finance customers are advised on investing in financial products. Here, too, two optional qualification units are chosen from a total of four possible and agreed in the training contract. The training to become an insurance and finance clerk takes three years, regardless of the focus chosen. The industry is equally popular with men and women: the proportion of female trainees has remained unchanged at around half for several years.
