TWELLO – Do you have diabetes, cardiovascular disease, apnea, PCOS, obesity, frequent cravings? Then leave Harriet Verkoelen measure your insulin. Harriet Verkoelen is diabetes expert, author of ‘Overcome and prevent diabetes‘, and owner of MeetIns, center for insulin resistance.
What is insulin resistance?
Insulin ensures that the sugars from your diet enter your body cells and give you energy. If the sugar (glucose) in your blood is too high, even more insulin is produced. The excess glucose is converted into belly fat. This is called insulin resistance. You no longer feel energetic and your waist size increases. In addition, you have a greater risk of health problems.
What does an insulin measurement give you?
By measuring your insulin you can actually see whether you also have too much insulin and you can prevent health problems. In 2011, Canadian doctor Kraft proved with insulin measurements that increased insulin is harmful to your blood vessels.
How does an insulin measurement work?
You have to be sober. There are four finger prick moments, after which your blood sugar and your insulin level are measured: fasting, after a glucose drink and one and two hours afterwards. The results are discussed and what the next step could be for you. In the meantime, questions about nutrition are answered and explanations are given about insulin resistance, low-carbohydrate, natural nutrition.
If you can prevent or improve diabetes and other health problems with such measurements, that is a big win.
