Rural Meeting in Clapiers: Exploring Nature with the Schmakroums
A studious gathering took place in Clapiers on Tuesday, June 13, as instructors and animators from Hérault came together to participate in a former treasure hunt. This unique event, which was originally set up in 2002 in the Clapier forest, has since been renamed by the children who have been actively involved in an environmental project. They have created a captivating story featuring imaginary characters known as the Schmakroums.
Learning Through Play
The treasure hunt game serves as an educational tool, providing valuable insights into the fauna and flora of the village. Marie-Pierre Delteil, from the Écolothèque de la Métropole, organized the event and invited officials from Pérols, Montpellier, Jacou, Lavérune, and Cournonsec to participate in the “Écométropole” program. The aim is to generate creative ideas that promote nature awareness and instill a sense of respect for the environment among children aged 5 to 13.
A Day of Art and Exploration
Under the guidance of Sylviane Leguillon, director of early childhood at Clapiers, and assisted by Thierry Fillet, the participants enjoyed a sunny morning in the lush surroundings. The grass, still damp from the previous day’s rain, provided the perfect canvas for their artistic endeavors. Engaging with grasses, exploring different materials, and experimenting with colors, the attendees embraced their inner painters and created unique works of art.
This enchanting location will soon be filled with the laughter and excitement of a hundred children on July 19th, as they embark on their own adventure with the Schmakroums.

This is a truly wonderful initiative! With the increasing concern for the environment and the urgent need to educate our children about sustainable practices, it is heartening to see instructors and officials coming together to create an eco-educational game. Games have always been a powerful tool for learning, and with this project, children will not only have fun but also develop a strong understanding of the importance of protecting our planet.
Clapiers should be commended for taking the lead in promoting environmental education. By integrating this game into their curriculum, children will be able to learn about topics like recycling, conservation, and renewable energy in a fun and interactive way. This will not only help them make more environmentally conscious choices but also instill a sense of responsibility towards the planet from a young age.
Moreover, collaborating with instructors and officials ensures that the game is designed with educational expertise and input from those who understand the needs and interests of children. This collaborative effort will undoubtedly result in a game that is both engaging and impactful.
It is crucial to equip children with the knowledge and skills to become eco-conscious citizens and the leaders of tomorrow’s sustainable world. By using gamification as a tool for education, we can make this learning process much more effective and enjoyable. I applaud the efforts of everyone involved in this project and look forward to seeing the impact it will make in Clapiers and beyond.
