An embarrassing mistake happened on the broadcast of the Mexican news channel RCG Media, when a video sent by a viewer showed testicles instead of a solar eclipse.
For the broadcast about the solar eclipse, the channel had asked viewers to send their own videos about the phenomenon. The proofreading work was apparently not carried out thoroughly enough, as the residue of a male viewer made it through the sieve into the national broadcast.
The video shows how the sun slowly dims as the h-moment dawns, until the man’s testicles appear in close-up. At the same time, the RCG hosts discuss the solar eclipse and admire the footage from the Arizona viewer.
The presenter of the channel continues to speak as the testicles descend on the screen. One of the presenters gasps for breath, while the other two still don’t understand what’s going on. After the inappropriate video has been removed from view, the broadcast continues as normal.
RCG treated the incident with self-deprecating humor. It published by on their social media channels a clip about the embarrassing situation with the accompanying words “How did you see the eclipse? Ours was…” followed by two egg emojis.
The video that ended up being broadcast is from 2017. However, the viewer from Arizona who sent the video successfully used the solar eclipse event again.
