In terms of art, all tastes are in nature. But there are perhaps smarter choices than others when it comes to placing a massive 400-pound block in the middle of one of New York’s landmarks.
Central Park, its joggers, its green lung and… its famous dark alleys after dark. This did not prevent the German artist Niclas Castello from wanting to exhibit his work in the middle of this green space symbol of New York. Thus, a block of gold weighing 186 kilos and whose value is estimated at 10 million euros has been humbly baptized “Pedestal of the world”. Of 24 carats, the work in question was created by melting the gold at more than 1100 degrees to manage to mold it on 45 centimeters in height in a foundry in Aarau in Switzerland.

If the work has become a real tourist attraction for onlookers who walk there, it is also considered extremely inappropriate by the public. Central Park is indeed known to be a park that hosts many homeless people day and night. This did not disturb the author in the least who declared that it was ” a work of conceptual art in all its facets, which goes beyond our world”.
