Dr. Amjad Al-Wakil, Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority, gave, at exactly two o’clock in celebration of the October Victory, the starting signal for the installation of the reactor core trap, the first long-term nuclear equipment to be installed in the project, which coincides with the golden jubilee celebrations of the glorious October victories.
The celebration was attended by the leadership of the Board of Directors, the leadership of the senior management of the Nuclear Power Plant Authority, the leadership of Atomstroyexport, and the technical work teams from the Egyptian and Russian sides.
During the trap installation activities, the agent stressed, “It is a great gesture that the installation of the reactor core trap for the first nuclear unit at the Dabaa nuclear station coincides with this great day, the day of pride and dignity, the day in which the will of the Egyptians triumphed with solid determination, that immortal day from which all Egyptians and those working in the stations authority draw inspiration.” Nuclear electricity generation, the spirit of struggle and hard work, raising the slogan “The Crossing Still Continues.”
The agent pointed out that during a short period of only fourteen months, the Dabaa nuclear plant site witnessed five major milestones in the course of the project’s implementation, starting with the first concrete pour for the first unit in July 2022 and continuing through the start of the first concrete pour for the second unit in November of the same year. The first parts of the reactor core trap arrived in March of this year, followed by the first concrete pour for the third unit in May, and today the first long-term equipment is being installed at the Dabaa nuclear station. It is also planned to start the first concrete pour for the fourth unit during the current year as well.
The agent continued that the Nuclear Power Plants Authority is on track to implement the project, with a rich record of successive and successive achievements, pledging to the Egyptian people and the country’s political leadership to achieve the peaceful Egyptian nuclear dream.
The agent also explained that today’s event crystallizes the efforts of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority and the Russian general contractor to complete all the project’s features according to the agreed upon timetable, with a spirit of patience, dedication and hard work, overcoming all difficulties.
The celebration also included performances of national anthems to add a spirit of joy and happiness and to celebrate this important achievement in the course of project implementation.
It is worth noting that the reactor core trap of the first nuclear unit is the first long-term equipment to arrive at the Dabaa Specialized Port in the Arab Republic of Egypt on March 21, 2023.
The reactor core trap is also the first long-term equipment installed in the reactor building of the first nuclear unit, and it is one of the distinctive equipment of the Russian reactors of the advanced third generation 3+. It is worth noting that the reactor core trap is one of the basic elements in the station’s safety system, and reflects the highest rates of Nuclear safety to ensure the safe and continuous operation of the Dabaa nuclear plant.
It took about 14 months to manufacture the reactor core trap in the Russian Federation, and it is a unique protection system that was installed under the bottom of the reactor vessel with the aim of increasing the degree of security and safety of the station.
