As part of the deployment of its 2023-2024 agro-environmental plan in partnership with the Water Agency, the Syndicate of Costières de Nîmes will place some 300 nesting boxes for tits and bat houses in the Costières de Nîmes vineyard.

Auxiliaries of the vine

Mid-March, on the occasion of the installation on the Domaine Pierre Teissonnière in Bellegarde in the Gard, Bernard Angelras, President of the AOC Costières de Nîmes, presented the challenges of this operation: birds are real auxiliaries of the vine by destroying grape worms as well as the golden citadel.

Challenges

This initiative aims to promote biodiversity in the vineyard and reinforce agro-environmental practices. With 3,309 hectares allocated in Costières de Nîmes, 80% of which in environmental certifications (organic, biodynamic, HVE, Terra Vitis) in 2022, the winegrowers of Costières de Nîmes are seen as good students in the Rhône Valley.

The Costieres of Nîmes

Recognized as an appellation in 1986, the AOC Costières de Nîmes belongs to the large family of vineyards in the Rhône Valley, of which it constitutes the southern tip. The vineyard, with more than 80% environmental certifications, has now become one of the most organic in France.

Concrete actions

The Syndicate has entered into a partnership with thewater agency, which makes it possible to finance ambitious projects necessary for the sustainability of the vineyard. The integration of a plant master plan and the installation of 300 birdhouses on the vines are part of these concrete actions that have already been undertaken.
