Instagram will prevent adults from sending messages to minors who don’t follow them | Technology

THE Instagram announced on Tuesday (16) new features and security policies for minors. From now on, adults will not be able to send messages to teenagers who do not follow them.

When making this attempt, users will receive a notification that notifies them that the direct message feature is not available. The updates are in effect all over the world.

The social network claims that the resource uses the age informed at the time of registration and artificial intelligence to predict whether the information is correct.

According to the application’s policies, you must have at least 13 years to make an account.

In interactions between minors under 18 and adults, Instagram may display a message that warns of “potentially suspicious behavior”. This notification will give you the option to block or report accounts directly in the chat.

To identify suspicious behavior, Instagram will consider accounts that are trying to follow or send messages to many minors, according to a statement.

The company said it will test ways to make it harder for adults who exhibit this behavior to find minors in the “suggestions for you” tool, which indicates accounts to follow.

Teen users will also be invited and make their profiles private when they sign up – and if they decide to keep their profile public, a message will “highlight the benefits of a private account”.
