Instagram will have more parental control functions

Starting in March, Instagram will have new parental control functions on its platform, according to what was announced by Adam Mosseri, director of this social network.

These new tools will allow parents and guardians to see how much time minors spend on Instagram, in addition to setting time limits and receiving notifications if their child reports someone else.

These controls had already been announced a few weeks ago and are part of a package with new features that seek to make the platform a safer place, especially for younger users.

It should be remembered that, for some months, Instagram has received strong criticism due to its low concern for the mental health of its adolescent followers.

According to an internal study that was leaked, the Meta social network is aware of the negative effect it has on young women regarding their perception of their body image, which would make them more insecure.

In addition to these new parental control functions, the platform develops an educational center for parents and guardians that offers advice and tutorials on the use of social networks by minors.

One of the first functions that Instagram will officially launch will be Take a Break, which it began testing a month ago.

This optional tool invites users to stop using the application for a while when they have been online for 10, 20, or 30 minutes.

According to the social network, 90 percent of people who have tried this feature left the reminders on once they were set.
