Instagram Users Can Now Like Stories, Here’s How

Jakarta

Instagram launched a new way to interact on Stories. This application owned by Meta released a new feature called Private Story Likes which allows users to give likes to other users’ stories privately, without sending DMs.

Previously, Instagram users could only respond to Stories by leaving comments or emojis. This response goes straight to the DM inbox like a normal message. With this new feature, users can respond to Stories without filling other people’s inboxes.

“Starting rolling out today, you can now send a little love by liking other people’s stories without sending a DM,” said Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri in an announcement on Twitter, as quoted from The Verge, Tuesday (15/2/2022).

“Likes in stories are private and have no number. Instead, likes appear as hearts next to the person’s handle (username) on your Stories display sheet,” he continued.

To give likes to other people’s stories, users simply click the heart button located between the message field and the airplane icon. Once clicked, the story creator will immediately receive likes.

Likes in Story will not be counted as in the main feed Instagram. Users can only see likes received through the list of people who viewed the Story, and next to their name will see a red heart icon.

Because it is private, other users who see Instagram Story You will not be able to see the number of likes you have received. Likes received will also not enter the DM, which Mosseri called is intended to make DMs cleaner.

“The idea is to make sure people can express more support to each other, but also while clearing up DMs,” Mosseri said.

“Messaging is a key priority for us, and an important part of it is the focus on DMs between you and your loved ones,” he concluded.
