The screenshots show some rumors of users who have reported losing an unusual number of followers at this time. According to these, not only verified accounts with millions of followers, but smaller accounts were also affected. Because the complaints listed there come, among other things, from users who have reported the loss of about 1,000 or just over 90 followers within an hour.
Back in mid-September, we reported on OnlineMarketing.de that mega-influencers like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kim Kardashian had lost millions of Instagram followers in 14 days. In this case, however, unlike the current one, Instagram has taken targeted actions against inactive bots and accounts.
Same day: Numerous users report indiscriminate account bans
On Monday afternoon, October 31, 2022, many users in Germany and other countries were suddenly unable to access their accounts. Instagram itself is said to have asked those affected to occur again.
Complaints about blocked accounts from Germany and the United States
Starting around 1:50 pm, numerous users began complaining on social platforms other than Instagram that they could no longer access their accounts. Instagram users also reported that their accounts had been blocked for incomprehensible reasons. Statistics on the number of Instagram interruptions too on the AlleStoerungen.de website, on which interruptions to online services and apps can be reported, agreed with the numerous complaints. The live outage map showed that users across Germany were struggling with blocked accounts right now. From 14, more than 5,000 reports were received from Germany. US users also reported this type of problem on Monday – according to information from The Verge Millions of Instagram accounts in the United States have been affected.

Apparently a bug: Instagram apologizes for the account suspension
Instagram first confirmed the problem on Twitter at 10:14 AM ET, but didn’t say the issues were fixed until several hours later, at 6:00 PM ET.

In addition to social media expert Matt Navarra, numerous users commented under Mosseri’s tweet shared in the first paragraph of this article and expressed concern about his suspended account. Many of these complaints make it clear that such Instagram bugs can be “extremely damaging” to brands and creators “who use this platform for business”.
