Instagram suspends Kanye West’s account after backlash over alleged anti-Semitic content

Instagram restricted Kanye “Ye” West’s account after removing the content for violating the platform’s policies.

A meta spokesperson confirmed the decision diversity, sharing that temporary restrictions on posting, comments and messages are standard practice for accounts that regularly violate the social media platform’s policies. The company did not specify which specific locations were the cause of the restriction.

West, who uses the @kanyewest handle on the platform, recently shared a now-deleted post containing a screenshot of a message allegedly sent to rapper Diddy, who had been criticized as anti-Semitic by Jewish advocacy groups such as the American Jewish Committee.

Representatives from the West were not immediately available for comment.

In the hours following his Instagram ban, West took to Twitter for the first time in some time, apparently calling Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg about his ban from the platform.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, involved in a court case over a possible Twitter purchase, responded by welcoming West to the social media platform.

The rapper also shared what he appears to be a teaser for a political campaign of 2024a perspective he has flirted with in the past.

This isn’t the first time West has faced restrictions on Instagram. In March, the rapper was suspended from the platform for 24 hours. In that incident, the content was also removed from West’s account for violations of the hate speech, bullying and harassment policy.

West also faced controversy earlier this week after wearing a “White Lives Matter” t-shirt during her surprise Yeezy Season 9 fashion show in Paris. The rapper also appeared for an interview on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight Thursday night to discuss the decision.
