Instagram Shuts Out iPad Users In Future Plans

In a tweet, Adam Mosseri destroyed the hopes of all iPad users who are waiting for their own Instagram app: This is not a priority any time soon.

Instagram has been the trending app on the market for a while. A few years ago, however, a significant competitor crept onto the market with TikTok and since then the two have been vying for the attention of users and creators. In the competition, TikTok copied some things from Instagram and Instagram even copied significant core functions from TikTok. However, one feature that Instagram hasn’t duplicated on TikTok to this day is the release of an app for the iPad. As Instagram Head Adam Mosseri has now announced, to the disappointment of many Apple users, this will not change in the near future.

No chance for Apple users

Mosseri is responding to a tweet from Marques Brownlee, in which he complained about a missing Instagram iPad app.

The Instagram boss makes it very clear: Releasing Instagram as a fully functional iPad app is currently not a priority for the social media company. The employees are too busy with other projects for that.

Limited Instagram features on iPad

He goes on to say that Android users make up the majority of Instagrammers and that any additional interface – in addition to the Android, iOS, “www” and Lite app already supported – would undesirably increase the administrative effort. The iPad has never had its own app before. Instead, users must access the iPhone app. However, this is only upscaled on the iPad and thus usually offers a somewhat downgraded experience in terms of quality. In addition, features such as landscape mode are not supported, resulting in users holding the iPad sideways only seeing a narrow feed with a lot of unused space on either side. Some features like posting reels are not possible via it.

According to Mosseri’s statement, the hope for iPad users of their own Instagram app has died for the time being. Just the fact that TikTok already supports such an app gives hope that Instagram will eventually follow suit to keep up with the competition.
