It looks like Instagram is about to significantly increase the maximum video length for Reels. These plans were first discovered by app researcher Alessandro Pelucci and confirmed by Meta. For now, Reels have a maximum length of three minutes, which could be increased to 10 minutes in the foreseeable future, thus becoming a stronger video sharing platform.
Increasing the video length of Reels to 10 minutes will give Instagram serious competition from TikTok, which increased the maximum video length to 10 minutes in February 2022. The change would also give Instagram Reels a chance to compete with YouTube, which has recently been focusing more on rolling out features for shorter videos.

The ability to post videos up to 10 minutes long would give content creators more freedom and flexibility. On the other hand, more thought should be given to how to keep viewers’ attention and encourage them to watch the whole video to the end.
Meta has confirmed that extended Instagram Reels are being tested internally, but did not specify when the feature might roll out to users.
