Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner want to make Instagram, well, Instagram. On their respective profiles, both sisters shared a petition recently started by photographer and influencer Tati Bruening under the username “illumitati”. The demand: Instagram should stop imitating rising rival TikTok.
Under the motto “Make Instagram Instagram again,” the post, which Kardashian and Jenner included in their stories, reads: “Stop trying to be TikTok, I just want to see cute photos of my friends.” In recent months, Instagram has increasingly introduced features similar to TikTok – including reels, a type of short video.
Back to the roots of Instagram
A petition founded by Bruening on the activism website Change.org had already collected over 180,000 signatures by Wednesday morning. Among other things, there is a call to arrange the feed chronologically again and to introduce an algorithm that prefers photos – and not videos.
“Let’s go back to basics and remember that Instagram’s intent was to share photos,” reads an excerpt from the petition. In addition, it is time to align the app with the wishes of the so-called content creators – i.e. those users who earn money with Instagram.
