First users can use Notes in their profile and leave other users a note in their profile. This should bring even more attention to the Instagram feature.
Notes, which have been available to German Instagram users since the beginning of 2023, are short posts with up to 60 characters that only contain text and emojis. IN the dedicated Notes area in the inbox, Notes can be shared with selected followers or close friends.
According to information from app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, who recently shared a post on X, Instagram is currently testing new interaction options for Notes in the profile. These tests allow users to add notes to their profile, which are then visible for three days. This opens up new possibilities for personal profile design and offers new ways of communication within the app.

According to the screenshot, the feature allows each other’s followers to leave personal notes on their friends’ profiles. The function is reminiscent of a kind of pin board on which followers can leave short messages or thoughts that are visible to everyone.
An early version of the test was discovered back in November 2023 by Alessandro Paluzzi, when it was displayed to him under the code name “Wonder Wall”. During this test phase, one could already guess that Instagram would like to use this function to offer another dedicated Notes area outside of the inbox.
The „profile notes“ and „Wonder Wall/My Wall“ features appear to be linked so if there are any updates I will continue the conversation in that thread 👇🏻

Notes updates for more engagement
Another feature for Notes seems to be planned in the Reels area. App researcher Ahmed Ghanem shared on X the function in the Reels area in which he was offered “Notes” as a filter.
Instagram has carried out many tests in the past for the Notes function, which is particularly popular with the younger target group, in order to generate even more interactions. For example, users have recently been able to replace their default profile photo in Notes with a short, looping video and add a short note. The recent update that users now have the opportunity to like notes from other users may also have led to more engagement in the Notes area.
It remains to be seen when and whether Instagram will officially roll out Notes on Profile. While some of Instagram’s tests may be temporary, the platform is committed to trying anything that could increase engagement.
