Instagram Now Allows Users to Add Messenger Contacts to Groups

Jakarta: Facebook started to combine Messenger and Direct Message (DM) on Instagram since 2020. The company from the United States said that more than 70 percent of Instagram users chose to use this feature.

Facebook is also rolling out the ability to create cross-app groups on both apps. This means users can create groups in Instagram DMs with Messenger contacts, and vice versa.

This ability is also supported by a typing indicator, showing friends in the group who are typing the next message. In addition, this capability also makes it easier for users to include colleagues who do not use one of the platforms in the group conversation.

Facebook also introduced the Polls tool in Instagram DMs, allowing users to vote on the restaurant they want to visit or the next movie they want to watch.

For personalization, Facebook is also introducing the J Balvin theme on Instagram and the Astrology Art Suite on Messenger, including AR stickers and effects, complementing the already available Cottegecore theme that launched earlier this year.

This feature is Facebook’s way of delivering a similar cross-platform messaging experience, Messenger and Instagram. Facebook’s efforts to keep up with competitors via similar features have now reached a new milestone, with the launch of Reels.

This feature, which was first available on Instagram, can now be enjoyed by Facebook users. The presence of Reels in the main Facebook application is driven by the growing popularity of TikTok among the public.

As a reminder, Reels is a clone of TikTok, much like Stories is a clone of Snapchat. The plan to develop a special application for children, touted as Instagram Kids, has been suspended.
