INSTAGRAM has announced major changes to the way it shares video on the platform. Instagram announced that it is now possible for users to “mix” or remix publicly accessible video content instead of just using Reels as before.
It’s easy to use, while viewing an Instagram video, you can tap the three dots near the top of the screen and select ‘Remix this video’ to start creating your remix. It’s just that old videos are not eligible for remix, only new videos uploaded since the update can be remixed.
Also, the feature doesn’t seem to work on videos uploaded as part of a multi-image Carousel. Instagram Carousel is a feature where users can share more than one photo, or video in one upload. (Read also; Instagram boss says Reels will be the focus in 2022 )
Quoted from the forbes page, Saturday (22/1/2022), Remix Instagram, was first introduced exclusively for the Instagram ‘Reels’ video format. Remix lets you create new collaborative content by attaching your own media to 4Instagram videos and optionally adding special effects.
It’s reminiscent of TikTok’s “Duet” feature. So, Remix helps users increase engagement in video content by commenting or reacting to videos posted by others. If TikTok’s success is followed, it will significantly increase the potential for Instagram content to go viral through Remix.
The changes come as part of a broader design overhaul aimed at keeping the platform relevant and fresh in the fast-evolving and highly competitive social media landscape. (Read also; Twitter Allows Users to Show NFT Through Profile Photos )
