Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia In 2021, Facebook launched a program that allows creators on its platform and Instagram to receive a monthly salary. The income indicator is determined by the number of viewers and other metrics in the ‘Reels’ feature.

Facebook promises that creators’ income can reach US$ 35,000 (Rp. 540 million) per month. This initiative is to encourage creators to be creative on Facebook and Instagram Reels instead of TikTok.

However, now the program has been suspended. Meta, as the holding company for Facebook and Instagram, argued that the withholding of the bonuses was for future program development.

“We stopped extending the deal [bonus] Reels for creators on Facebook and Instagram for now,” said a Meta spokesperson InsiderFriday (10/3/2023).

Furthermore, in the future Meta says that it will still provide bonuses to creators in a way that is more targeted. For example, when Reels is able to reach a new audience.

The development of the service in question is related to the expansion of advertisements on Reels. This allows for more traditional revenue-sharing arrangements for creators.

Head of Facebook applications at Meta, Tom Alison, alluded to this change in a blog post. According to him, the company’s priority in the future is to expand the reach of advertisements on Reels.

“We help creators collect more ad revenue on Reels, as well as add gift virtual on the platform,” he explained.

It is known, another way to get money from Reels is through virtual gifts. This feature first applies to TikTok with a method that is better known by the term ‘online chat’.

In Indonesia, Reels creators have started to get online reviews. Users can give virtual prizes in the form of stickers that can be cashed by Reels creators.
