Instagram extends the “daily limit” of time in the app: what it means for users

Instagram extended the daily personal limit of use of the application by removing the option to use the social network for periods of less than 30 minutes. The company has a system that reminds the user to take certain breaks to disconnect from the social network and thus “take a break.”

Previously, this mechanism allowed the user to configure the application so that after 10 minutes had elapsed, it would indicate that it should pause.

The implementation of this function was part of a strategy used by Instagram in which they tried to show the public that they care about their users, putting their health before staying connected.

“If someone has been scrolling for a while, we’ll ask them to take a break from Instagram and suggest setting reminders to take more breaks in the future. We’ll also show you tips backed by experts to help you reflect and reset,” the company said in December when it introduced the feature.

However, this seems to have changed the 10 and 15 minute limits were recently removed by the platform. Now the new daily connection limit to Instagram is 30 minutes, which represents a jump from the previous limits.

Instagram’s new strategy could be driven by the platform’s desire to keep its users’ attention for as long as possible. This becomes more important after Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, reported a drop in average monthly active users.

As a consequence of this, the shares of Facebook registered a drop of 20% of the share price of the social network.

Despite all this situation, from Instagram they have not issued any type of official statement that explains the reason for the new policy.
