Private messages in both countries are now encrypted on Instagram, while Russian state media posts on Facebook will be countered. This will also be the case on Instagram.

End-to-end encryption is coming to Instagram

According to Protocol, Meta Group President of International Affairs Nick Clegg announced new features. Instagram will inform its users that they can now switch to encrypted conversations, which was already offered on Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.

In addition, the Meta group does not want to block its services in Russia, because it believes that Russians must be able to continue to use its platforms. “to express oneself, organize and protest” or help their family and friends. Meta, however, responded to requests from the European Union and Ukraine to block Russia Today and Sputnik, and it banned Russian state media from advertising or making money on its platforms.
