Coach Misha Kaufmann (40) is not “The Special One” of the league, he is “The Creative One”. You see this regularly on his Instagram account.
Handball coach Kaufmann: He makes the players dizzy
The Swiss creates videos every week in which he clearly explains training work and methods. “I want to pass on my knowledge and my thoughts,” says Kaufmann. “Especially to the youngsters and not just handball-specific. I am firmly convinced that we can do a lot better when it comes to youth and training work in almost all sports.”
New example: Neuro-athletics to warm up.
“This is part of our pre-game activation,” says Kaufmann. So it’s an exercise that his players do not only before training, but also before games. The professionals, for example, cover one eye and then use the other eye to follow an outstretched finger in all directions.
Kaufmann: “This is about activating different regions of the brain so that they work together more effectively. Focus and peripheral vision are increased. These exercises can make you dizzy.”
The welcome side effect: “Reaction times become faster, movements become more precise. This has huge advantages for our sport because precision plays a big role in handball. Just half a step too much or too little can have a big impact.”
The most important aspect for Kaufmann: “It also prevents injuries. Because injuries often occur due to incorrect movements.”
