The Instagram platform has been blocked in Turkey since Friday. This is reported by various media outlets, citing the state-affiliated Turkish news agency DHA, which in turn cites the Turkish Information and Communication Technology Authority BTK.
Users in Turkey cannot currently access Instagram without a secure network connection (VPN). The ban may be related to the killing of the Hamas leader. The cyber rights activist Yaman Mediterranean wrote on the platform X that “national security and the protection of public order” were reasons for blocking Instagram.
On Wednesday, Turkey’s communications director, Fahrettin AltunInstagram in a post on X accused of suppressing condolences for Ismail Haniyehthe slain foreign chief of the terrorist Hamas. He had accused the platform of censorship.
It was not immediately clear whether there was a connection to the ban. Recep Tayyip Erdogan on X, Turkey has declared a day of national mourning for Friday because of Haniya’s death.
