Meta is working on a new solution to improve the security and efficiency of recovering Instagram and Facebook accounts, often targets of hackers. The current procedure, although secure, is regularly exploited by hackers seeking to take control of personal accounts without the authorization of their owner. Faced with this growing threat, Meta decided to explore new options to strengthen user protection.
One of the innovations currently in development is based on the use of Face ID to allow immediate recovery of accounts in the event of a blocking or hacking. Face ID technology has established itself as a quick and secure way to authenticate a user, which is why Meta plans to integrate it into its platforms to simplify the account recovery procedure.
How does it work?
Meta’s process requires users to submit a selfie video, similar to the process of registering Face ID on an iPhone upon activation. The user will have to turn their head in multiple directions to allow the system to capture an accurate model of their face.
By integrating this technology, Meta hopes to offer a much faster solution than manual checks, which can be time-consuming, especially for users who have been hacked. With Face ID, recovering an account can be done in a few minutes, which will provide a better user experience.
The good news is that Meta will give users the option to choose between automatic verification via facial recognition or manual control for those who prefer not to use this technology. To reassure its users, Meta ensures that all facial information captured during the process is encrypted and stored securely. Once the comparison is made, whether positive or not, this data is immediately deleted from the company’s servers.
This new feature, still in the testing phase, could well revolutionize the way users recover their accounts in the event of a problem. Meta wants to deploy this option gradually, allowing everyone to benefit from enhanced security, while maintaining control over the verification methods used.
