Spectacular landscapes, open skies and outdoor life in American characterize the Instagram account of 22-year-old Gabby Petito. Until the end of August, she posted several posts a week to her many thousands of followers.
Together with her boyfriend, she traveled across land and beach in the United States in what Petito himself describes as “a small van”.
Now the travel diary has abruptly stopped – and has been replaced by a disappearance mystery. Since August 26, it has been quiet from Petito.
On September 1, boyfriend Brian Laundrie returned to their home in North Port, Florida – without Petito. Ten days later, she was reported missing.
In her latest post before the disappearance, Petito shared a photo where she poses with a miniature pumpkin:
Now Laundrie has also disappeared, according to his own family. They have contacted the FBI after the disappearance, and say they have not been in contact with him since Tuesday.
– The family’s lawyer called the FBI on Friday, and said they wanted to tell about the son’s disappearance. They now claim that they have not seen Brian since Tuesday this week, the police in North Port write in one statement according to Reuters.
Police are searching with large forces for Laundrie after the disappearance.

According to their lawyer, Richard Stafford, the Petito family has a completely different view of the case:
– Gabby’s entire family wants the world to know that Brian has not disappeared, but that he has gone into hiding. Gabby is missing, claims lawyer Stafford.
According to CNN The FBI is conducting a search for Petito in the Grand Teton National Park, where she was last seen. The car they were traveling in was found at the couple’s home in Florida – where they lived with Laundrie’s parents.
Police release video
On August 19, the couple split a video on Youtube entitled «The beginning of our van-life journey». In the video, the audience gets to join the couple from the San Francisco landmark Golden Gate Bridge, to elongated strings and incredible rock formations.
The couple smiles, kisses and eats sushi together throughout the video.
On Friday, the police released a video, which shows that the couple was stopped by the police in the state of Utah on August 12 – one week before the idyllic video blog was uploaded. The police had received a report from a witness about a possible episode of domestic violence in the car.
In the car, Petito is said to have cried uncontrollably, but the police were informed that he had not beaten her. Both are said to have told the police that they were “in love, engaged and did not want to see anyone charged with anything criminal”.
