Inspiring children to love books: A night at the library with stories and fun

Making people love books, discovering beautiful stories with cute pictures, immersing themselves in a story or listening to a beautiful story, this is the challenge that inspired the teacher in charge of CP /CE1 at the town’s primary school, assistant Marie-Paule Baron for culture and assistant Danièle Coronado for schools. And quickly came the idea of these three with a project to visit the library of Nathalie Sarraute de Soues, working in conjunction with Ms. Bardes from the TLP group in charge of the library network.

The date 30 April was chosen and about 19 children took over the place for the evening. It was interesting to note that although the teacher had prepared this small group perfectly, the children immediately understood the purpose of the trip and remained particularly attentive and fascinated by it. the activities that were offered. Michelle Pambrun, a former city councilor and library volunteer, had carefully chosen 3 stories to tell them after explaining to them how books were classified and how a library worked. Then, each child freely chose a book and sat down quietly to read it. The pleasure of reading was there, and it was clear that the young school children were enjoying this special time, when the library was to themselves for the evening. We even had to call them several times when it was time to go back to school.

A good experience to repeat with other classes so that tablets and cell phones are forgotten and the taste of books and knowledge is passed on to these young children.

Please note that for several years now, the town has provided each school in the town with a small library led by Isabelle to encourage children to enjoy reading and knowledge. We can only congratulate the teachers and elected officials for organizing this wonderful evening for young children. Remember that the library is located in place Jean Jaurès and is open on Wednesday afternoons. A project is being explored in conjunction with the TLP consortium to increase these opening hours to the public thanks to the presence of professionals on site.
