In this season’s last concert from the “History of the Sonata” series, Zornitsa and Iosif Radionovi have selected some of the most cheerful sonatas from the Baroque to the present day, inspired by folk dance creativity.

Jean-Marie Leclerc is among the great Baroque virtuosos of the 18th century in France. The Sonata in D Major, like some suites of the era, features characteristic dances, the Provençal Tambourine being particularly infectious.

Joaquín Turina, although less often performed in our country, is a famous Spanish composer who leans firmly on national music. Laconic in its length, the First Sonata for violin and piano is rich in emotional contrasts, conveyed with a refined and expressive musical language of the first decades of the 20th century.

Parashkev Hadjiev – virtuoso pianist and composer, prolific in all genres, shines with a masterful command of musical forms and harmonies. His second violin sonata inspires with unadulterated and sparkling optimism.

Already in his First Violin Sonata, Beethoven grabs us on the wings of irrepressible youthful impulses. Its finale is imbued with infectious folk dance rhythms.

Dvořák wrote the wonderful sonatina op.100 during his stay in the USA, inspired by the exoticism of New World folklore.
