Inspectors from Latvia will check Russian military bases in the Bryansk and Smolensk regions from January 24 to 29

The inspection will take place within the framework of the 2011 Vienna Document on confidence- and security-building measures, and the scale of military activity will be assessed, said Sergei Ryzhkov, head of the National Center for Nuclear Risk Reduction. The inspected area is 13.2 thousand square kilometers. Ryzhkov stressed that Russia had agreed to the inspection.

“In the course of their work, the inspectors will receive briefings from the command of military formations and units located within the specified area, containing information about their structure, tasks and military activities,” Ryzhkov added.
