“We can conclude that explosions occurred near the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines,” prosecutor Mats Ljungkvist confirmed in a statement.
“Crime scene investigations have reinforced the suspicion that serious sabotage has occurred,” he added.
“The testimonies were collected at the crime scene and will now be evaluated,” the prosecutor said.
Ljungkvist did not disclose further details, explaining it with the confidentiality of the investigation and stating that “the matter is very sensitive”.
All four spill sites, discovered on Monday, are located in the Baltic Sea near the Danish island of Bornholm.
Two spill sites are located in Sweden’s exclusive economic zone, two in Denmark.
On Monday, the Swedish prosecutor’s office announced that it would block the area around the spills in the Swedish zone to carry out inspections of the leak sites.
On Thursday, however, the prosecutor confirmed that, with the completion of the inspections, the restrictions were lifted.
