Following a devastating ransomware attack on Insomniac Games that resulted in over a terabyte of data leaking online, including a working build of Wolverine, other developers have understandably stepped up their cybersecurity efforts.
It was claimed that just days after the Insomniac Games hack, Ubisoft also suffered from a malicious intrusion, but the story had a more positive ending. It was reported that Ubisoft’s cybersecurity teams cleared their systems of the hacker before a significant amount of data could be stolen.
The vx-underground Twitter says that on December 20, an “unknown attacker” broke into Ubisoft’s systems and remained there for about forty-eight hours. During this time, this user had access to SharePoint, Confluence and Microsoft Teams, as well as other internal systems, but despite this level of access, all that appears to have surfaced is a series of screenshots showing almost nothing it is seen.
The attacker reportedly tried to “steal” around 900GB of data, but failed after Ubisoft booted him off the system. It was further claimed that the data the attacker was trying to protect was related to Rainbow Six Siege.
