Insights into Legendary Ships and Wreckage in Starfield: Senior Level Designer Shares Details

Senior Level Designer Zachary Wilson shared some interesting insights into the legendary ships and wreckage in the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG Starfield.

A representative from Bethesda Game Studios took to the official website of ZeniMax and Microsoft subsidiary to reminisce about the milestones of his career, his passions and, most importantly, the work he has done shaping the gameplay, story and content of Starfield.

After talking about the “hilarious dialogue” that will characterize some of the side and free space opera missions (which I won’t write about to avoid spoilers), Wilson moves on to the combat phases aboard ships, explaining that:

there will be encounters with legendary ships, huge enemy aircraft of a very high level, which at the beginning of the game will surpass any ship piloted by the player. Those who want to defeat them will have a long way to go….

The senior designer also spoke about derelict ships and the Bethesda-style emergent storytelling that will characterize the exploration of ships drifting through space:

We hand-crafted several derelict ships to highlight the dangers and tragedies that can happen during space travel. Players, accordingly, will have to explore these wreckage and find out what happened to the crew. The great thing is that to create these stories, we have involved people who are completely outside the development team, i.e. colleagues who are not usually involved in content creation, in order to leave a concrete mark on the game in this regard as well. For example, our designer Chris Takahashi, who has experience with mods, has created some spaceships that are really interesting.
