Insights from the Lima Festival: Great Music, Friendly Audience, and the Importance of Language

“Let’s after all the slop that was poured on the Lima festival (how much crap in people!), I’ll tell you how it really was. It was awesome. Three days of great music on stage [концертного зала] “Dzintari” with full halls (and the hall there is very big), artists from around the world, and most importantly – an incredibly friendly audience. Lima, thank you!” he wrote.

Makarevich also spoke about the fate of the Russian language.

“A little about the language (not my idea). It’s stupid to accuse the German language of crimes [немецкого фюрера Адольфа] Hitler, but at the beginning of the twentieth century it was one of the three leading languages of the world – the language of philosophy, science, medicine. After World War II, he finally (and, I think, irrevocably) lost his position. Let’s thank the president for his efforts to promote the Russian language on the planet,” the musician added.

Makarevich published photos and videos taken at the festival. In particular, a recording of the performance of the song “She”, which he performed together with Vaikule.

Context:

The festival under the patronage of Vaikule has been held since 2015. This year it was held from July 28th to 30th. Part of the funds from the events within the framework of the festival will be directed to help Ukrainian children affected by the invasion of Ukraine by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.

On the first day of the festival, Ukrainian artists Olya Polyakova, Max Barskikh, Verka Serdyuchka, Anna Butkevich and Alekseev performed on stage. Verka Serdyuchka, portrayed by Andrey Danilko, performed her hit Dancing Lasha Tumbai, already traditionally paraphrasing the chorus from Lasha Tumbai to Russia Good Bye.

Ukrainian celebrities performed their hits in Ukrainian on stage in Jurmala. Latvian stars performed songs in Latvian and English. The concert was held in Latvian. Representatives of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, from which there were no artists at the festival, left insults to the festival and the artists who took part in it.
