“Insights from a Malaysian Coconut Milk Seller: Overcoming Business Challenges”

Malaysia

Everyone who owns a business will experience the ups and downs of their business. Like this fresh coconut milk seller who shared his bitter experience. It’s been struggling for three days to prepare the customer’s coconut milk order but to no avail.

For three days and three nights, this man named Muhammad Shahmie Abu Seman prepared the coconut milk the customer ordered. However, he suffered a loss because the fresh coconut milk that was to be handed over to customers turned out to be stale ahead of Hari Raya.

“It’s been three days since I packed the fresh coconut milk for Hari Raya. I was so busy that I didn’t take a bath for three days. I didn’t even sleep more than three hours because I had all the coconut milk ready. All the coconuts were ready, all I had to do was process them,” he told Mstar.

This 23-year-old man admits that he has recruited other people to help with the coconut milk production process. But he didn’t expect all the coconut milk that was already in the freezer to go stale after three days.

Shahmie started selling fresh coconut milk two months ago. He said he had processed more than 100 kilograms of fresh coconut milk using more than 400 to 500 coconuts.

He sells coconut milk for RM12 or around IDR 39,475 thousand. He was forced to bear losses of more than RM2,000 or around IDR 6.6 million.

This man who came from Malaysia admitted that the incident was his own fault. “I received an order of 100 kg. But the next morning when I sold all the coconut milk, it turned out that it was stale in the freezer,” he explained.

Even though it had been a week since he received the order, he had to cancel because he couldn’t prepare it as Idul Fitri approached. Shahmie experienced a loss in running the fresh coconut milk business, she did not give up on continuing the business. The man who lives in Kedah, Malaysia chose to make his loss an experience.

He will not repeat the mistake in the future. “I am not so sad but more sincere with what has happened. After that incident I am more excited to sell,” he said.

“I learned how to store santan properly,” concluded the man who also provides pastries and sells them around the city of Ants Nest, Yan, Kedah, Malaysia.
