Insider build Windows 11 can control rgb hardware from Settings - Computer - News

Microsoft is working on support for controlling RGB lighting in computer components. The functionality appeared in the latest Insider build of Windows 11. This functionality may make hardware makers’ own rgb apps obsolete.

Twitter user @thebookisclosed shows screenshots which shows that the RGB lighting of his gaming keyboard can be controlled via a menu in the Windows 11 Settings app. There are options for brightness, type of effect, speed and color. The latter can even be adapted to the accent color of Windows 11, which in turn can adapt to the desktop background.

Right now, RGB-equipped hardware still needs to be controlled with separate software. The manufacturers have developed their own apps for this; Razer Synapse, Corsair iCue, NZXT Cam and Logitech G Hub are examples of this. There are also apps like OpenRGB who are already trying to get everything under an open source roof. Addressable RGB LEDs are in a lot of hardware these days, such as keyboards, fans, RAM, motherboards, video cards and more.

Microsoft speaks in the announcement of build 25295 not of the presence of the new institutions. That in itself is not surprising; it’s common for the community to discover new things in Insider builds that Microsoft hasn’t revealed themselves. Whether the feature will actually end up in Windows 11 is also not certain, but it looks like it.
